This was a good win against an inexperienced but decent side. We bowled pretty well to start with and their batting wasn't bad before Austin L made the breakthrough. The stand-out moment in their innings was Etienne's over in which he claimed a hat-trick and took four wickets in six balls. He went on to pick up a 'Michelle' (cricket slang, look it up). With a run-out and a couple of other wickets falling, Horsmonden finished on 219.
That wasn't a difficult target and we scored more than enough to win but what was good was that when we lost a couple of wickets in rapid succession, as twice happened in the first eight overs, we didn't panic and set about repairing the damage. Once our batsmen had put enough breathing space between our score and theirs, Austin L and Ewan and Etienne and Ethan batted very sensibly to close out the match. That was smart cricket.
Lots of good things then: yet again Austin L and Ewan were brilliant with their calling and running between the wickets, Etienne's bowling was exceptional; Ethan batted and kept better than I have seen him; Joseph and Byron both kept it tight with their bowling; once he had got the no-balls out of his system, Austin B found his deadly yorker; and Morgan managed to keep the scoreboard ticking over despite the injury to his wrist. We only suffered one run out which was thanks to some v good fielding, and I think only had one misfield and one set of overthrows when we were in the field.
