After a 4 week break in cricket fixtures, the team were keen to get back on the pitch. Playing at their home ground, TW Borderers won the toss and went into bat. Similarly pleased to be getting a game, they provided a motivated opposition, keen to maximise runs at every opportunity. Myles and Joe kept the first 4 overs relatively tight, before their opening batsmen settled into their stride. But following two strong innings, Nate stopped a third batsman retiring not out with a wicket in his first over. Buoyed by this breakthrough, Monty's accurate bowling paid off with a second wicket in the next over. Shortly after, a great catch by Max gave Myles a wicket. Fielding improved as the innings went on, and accurate bowling throughout kept the extras down. Innings closed on 155.
In return, LPCC batted out the 20 overs. Max and Terry demonstrated to the team the determination and focus required at the crease to keep at the wicket, in the face of strong but erratic and varied bowling from the opposition. Myles held the innings together, supported by Joe, Monty & Rafi, and the whole team made it difficult for the Borderers to take their wickets.
Thanks to Terry for his thoughtful and considered first captaincy, and to Dan for his first match as wicket keeper for the team. Thanks too to Myles and Monty for playing up from the U13s, and especially to Monty's Dad Mark for his umpiring and support of the team on the field.
