Despite the margin of defeat, this was a good opening performance. We were up against what looked like an experienced side and had three players on our own team who were making their hard ball debuts. The opposition bowling was strong so to post a score of 261 was very respectable. For once, there were no run-outs and the calling and running between wickets was good, considering the lack of match practice.
Tunbridge Wells' batting was equally strong but at no stage did their batsmen dominate and the fielding was ok. Most importantly, no one's head went down when it was clear that they were going to win. There will still be room for improvement in all areas but we can take a lot of heart from this performance. Special mention to the three debutants - Euan, Ben and Massi - all of whom showed they can hold their own in hard ball cricket, and to Monty for taking the keeping gloves and pulling off a great run out.
Man of the Match goes to Morgan for his superb batting and bowling.
